Laba Siwandu - Nyerere National Park (prev Selous)

LOCATION: Laba Siwandu camp is located in Nyerere National Park, which is the largest and oldest national park found in Africa (formerly the Selous Game Reserve). The park is home to diverse wildlife experiences, away from the mainstream tourist circuit. It’s one of the few places in Tanzania that allows for a combination of traditional game drives and safari walks with water-based safari activities. Located far off the obvious tourist circuit in the South of Tanzania.

SETTING:  Laba Siwandu Lodge is beautifully sheltered in a grove of palms on the shore of Lake Nzerakera.

ACCOMMODATION:  Each of the stylish ten tents is perched on a wooden deck beneath a stunning Makuti thatched roof, spanning approximately 550 sq ft. Relax on the private wooden deck, complete with a cozy daybed, perfect for unwinding after or before your safari adventure. One extra bed for a child can be added and bedding can also be converted to twin beds. Bed linen, bathrobes and bathroom amenities are all organic.

HIGHLIGHTS: I was impressed by the remote setting far from any other camps, the exceptional natural beauty of Ruaha, the prolific wildlife and the one-of-a-king Thermal Bush Spa set in the middle of nowhere!

ACTIVITIES: Morning and afternoon game drives with a private guide and vehicle, walking safari (2 min, 6 max, 16 years or older), bush breakfast and bush sundowners, boat safaris, pontoon boat lunch cruise, night safari and fishing (catch & release). Elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards and a large number of giraffes are commonly seen, while the waters teem with large concentrations of hippos and crocodiles. Birdlife is prolific and wild dogs are also in the area.
