Takwela Camp - North Luangwa
LOCATION: At confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers in remote North Luangwa National Park.
SETTING: Situated on Remote Africa’s private land at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers, Takwela has stunning views across a resident hippo pod to pristine bush on all sides.
ACCOMMODATION: Takwela accommodates up to eight guests in four en-suite chalets, with two double beds in three chalets and one king chalet. In keeping with the Remote Africa ethos, the camp is solar powered and built, primarily, from local natural materials and constructed with local skills.
HIGHLIGHTS: Takwela offers an intimate wilderness experience and the rare opportunity to visit a beautiful and unexplored area of the North Luangwa. In true Remote Africa Safaris style, expect excellent guiding, warm hospitality and delicious food as you would when visiting any Remote Africa camp. This part of the park is home to healthy populations of lion, hyena, elephant, impala, leopard, wildebeest, wild dog and over 400 species of birds and much more. By virtue of its remoteness, guests will virtually have exclusive access to over 55 miles of Luangwa river frontage and several natural springs!
ACTIVITIES: Game drives (with maximum of 4 guests per vehicle), night drives, walking safaris, mountain bike safaris.
CHILD POLICY: Children 8 years and older welcome at Takwela. Children under 12 years of age shall enjoy a 50% discount on the standard rate. Children under 12 years are strictly not permitted to participate in walking safaris.
GETTING THERE: Takwela is just a 25 minute scenic flight from our Lukuzi airstrip in South Luangwa, flying over the dramatic riverine landscape to Mwaleshi airstrip and then a 45 minute game drive and a canoe crossing into camp. Transfers to / from Mwaleshi camp is part of a full morning walking safaris although direct transfers can be made with a one hour game drive.
